Opublikowano 4 marca 2025 w: Aktualności

The Editorial Team of the Polish Sociological Review (PSR) journal is inviting proposals for guest-edited special issues (SIs) to be published in late 2025 (vol.4) and throughout 2026 (volumes to be confirmed).

Deadline for proposal submissions: March 20, 2025

Overview

The new Editorial Team of the PSR invites scholars interested in guest-editing a volume to submit proposals for Special Issues of the PSR. This is an open call and proposals can be on any theme and be at any stage of development. Therefore, we invite guest editors who still need to solicit contributions and those who already have an outline and preliminary list of papers/authors they wish to invite and include. In any case, the proposed SI should offer a clear contribution to the emerging, current or recently overlooked topics in sociological scholarship and broader social research. Please note that all submitted articles will undergo the standard and rigorous peer review process typical of the PSR journal. The acceptance of articles is not guaranteed and is subject to satisfactory peer review reports and revisions. The reviews will be completed by the members of the Editorial Team, Editorial Board, as well as additional subject-experts.

While the proposals can be from any area, they must be underpinned by a sound rationale for the collection of papers focusing on the chosen theme, subfield, research stream or method. Besides the original research articles, SI will also include a guest editorial introduction, which is expected to provide the necessary background, context, contents’ summary and a conceptual and/or methodological framework for the volume. The proposed SI should also build on the journal’s reputation for advancing sociology in Poland and beyond.

To this end, we particularly welcome proposals that share the journal’s aims and overarching concerns, including:

● Thematic SIs presenting overviews of theorising and research in sociology within a given area (collections focused on a subfield/area/phenomenon or event);

● Presentation of methodological advancements and innovations (e.g., collections focused on a particular method);

● Sociological responses to contemporary (poly)crises, featuring global, regional and local challenges;

● State of the art collections, featuring theoretical and methodological reviews, identifying gaps and providing examples of emerging research in a given subfield;

● Reflecting on the role of sociology in the world, including its public mission, audiences, as well as the discipline’s futures.

● Highlighting/promoting visibility of ongoing research in Poland/concerning Poland, also in a comparative framework.

Benefits of publishing in PSR

In relation to Special Issues (and more generally), the PSR journal (see https://polish-sociological-review.eu/) offers:

● open access English-language publication indexed in Scopus / IF=0.6 / 70 points on the Polish Ministry’s journal evaluation list;

● rigorous peer-review and efficient processing of submissions;

● close collaboration of the Editorial Team and Guest Editors in regard to formulating and disseminating the CfP, selection and processing of submissions (including collaborative searches for reviewers), as well as promoting the SIs and its contribution.

Guidelines for submission

Prospective guest editors should submit proposals of up to three pages in length by March 20, 2025. Each proposal should specify:

1. The focus of the proposed SI with reasons regarding its timeliness/relevance/significance for the social research/sociological landscape and a summary of the intended conceptual framework for the SI.

2. Names, contact details and short bios of guest editors showing the track record that will enable them to put the SI together. If known, please also include the possible authors/ contributors. If the papers were originally presented at a specific conference, seminar or another event, please include details on this matter.

3. Envisioned timeline / publication schedule. (Note that this will be discussed, agreed and drawn up by the PSR Editorial Team and guest editors for each accepted proposal individually).

SI proposals should be sent as email attachments to the Editorial Office (psr@pts.org.pl) and the Editor in Chief (ppustulka@swps.edu.pl) with the email title “Special Issue Proposal” by the March 20th deadline. We also encourage getting in touch with the Editor/Deputy Editors if you wish to discuss your ideas (https://polish-sociological-review.eu/Editorial-Board,2182.html)
