Our initiative brings down to creating a platform upon which to integrate the circle of sociologists dealing with ethnicity issues (participation in scientific meetings, seminars, etc.) as well as to organise and support enterprises devoted to these questions (i.a. conferences, symposia, lectures, publications).
As scholars, we are concentrated on such phenomena as: minorities, identity, neighbourships, migrations, multiculturalism, Central-Europeanness as well as various movements, collectivities – analysed in an ethnic and nationalities context. By means of our initiative, we make reference to the XIX-century, Central European sociology which used to devote much more attention to the problems of nationalities than the Western European thinkers did. Through the operation of the Section of the Sociology of Ethnicity, we intend to create an opportunity for the members of the PSA to broaden the spectrum of their activity by the problems which still, in spite of the global pressure, have not lost validity.
The Section of the Sociology of Ethnicity came into being on 28 February 2014.
Its present Executive Board, elected on 13 September 2019, comprises:
- Kamilla Dolińska (Wrocław Branch of PSA) – chair
- Marcin Dębicki (Wrocław Branch of PSA) – vice chair
- Bożena Pactwa (Katowice Branch of PSA) – vice chair
