P<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">SA<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">consists mainly of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">sociologists who work <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">in<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"> universities, Polish Academy of Sciences and other research institutions. Most of the members coming from outside the academic institutions <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">are <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">opinion and market researchers and social workers. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">PSA<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"> finances its activities from membership fees, income <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">comes also from <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">own Research Department, the Committee for Scientific Research grants, universit<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">ies\u2019<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"> institutes of sociology and private sponsors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">Polish Sociological Association is the second in the history of the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">discipline<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">in Poland <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">by that name. The first was<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">established from<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"> the initiative of Florian Znaniecki on <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">the First Conference of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">Polish Sociologists in Poznan in 1931<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">and was one of the earliest sociological <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">associations<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"> in Europe. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">The <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">Warsaw office <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">of the association <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">was <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">established<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">, and the President <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">of the PSA become <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">professor <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">Ludwik Krzywicki. Previously, since 1927 work, The Polish Institute of Sociology<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"> In Pozna\u0144<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">also <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">created by Znaniecki combined the tasks of a research institute with functions of scientific <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">association<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">. About P<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">SA<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"> pre-war activities little is known, except fo<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">r<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"> cooperation with the PI<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">S in POzna\u0144<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"> in the organization of II Congress of Polish Sociologists in Warsaw in 1935. P<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">SA existed until<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"> the a war<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">A<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">fter the war <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">not <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">resumed operations, some of the functions <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">realized PIS that was reactivated <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">in 1944<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">(abolished in 1951, along with other <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">sociological <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">institutions).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">Current PTS was founded in 1957, its creation was an important fact in the process of rebirth of sociology after the collapse of Stalinism. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">From <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">the initiative of Stanislaw Ossowski and a group of sociologists from Warsaw and Lodz was founded Sociological Section <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">the Polish Philosophical Society<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"> i<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">n 1956. Section <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">did<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"> accession to the International Sociological Association (ISA), and a year later evolved into a separate Polish Sociological <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">Association<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">Prof. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">Ossowski was<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">chairman of the board and the board members<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"> included<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">: Nina Assorodobraj, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">J\u00f3zef<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"> Chalasinski, Antonina K\u0142oskowska, J<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">an<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">Luty\u0144ski, Stefan Nowak, Zygmunt Pen, Jan Strzelecki, Jan Szczepa\u0144ski. With the development of the sociology <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">in Poland the<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">number of members <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">of PSA <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">grew rapidly, an informal group of sociologists and sociology supporters in various cities<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">created<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"> regional offices (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">Pozna\u0144<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"> 1959, Lodz and Warsaw 1960, Lublin 1961, Krakow and Wroclaw in 1963, Torun 1964), and researchers with common interests <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">organized themselves<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"> in sections, first in the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">regional <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">branches, and then <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">on the national level<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">. Within a few years <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">were <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">created the basic structure of the P<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">SA. The organization <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">has developed as a self-governing and autonomous organization of the sociological <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">community <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">its social authority.
