History of Association<\/h1>\n

Polish\u00a0Sociological Association\u00a0is a scientific\u00a0and professional\u00a0organization of\u00a0Polishsociologists.\u00a0Operates under the\u00a0Law on Associations\u00a0of 1989\u00a0and the Statute,\u00a0as amended.\u00a0PTS\u00a0statutory objectives\u00a0include\u00a0encouraging the development of\u00a0sociology, the dissemination of\u00a0sociological knowledge, development\u00a0of\u00a0sociologists,\u00a0promoting of\u00a0professional ethics, and\u00a0representing the interests of Association\u00a0members\u00a0in their\u00a0professional\u00a0and scientific\u00a0activities\u00a0(\u00a7\u00a09).\u00a0The\u00a0PSA\u00a0may include\u00a0persons who have\u00a0completed their sociological studies\u00a0or related\u00a0disciplines\u00a0and other\u00a0persons,\u00a0if they have\u00a0some\u00a0achievements\u00a0in the field of\u00a0sociology.<\/span><\/p>\n

Those only interested in the sociology and students can become associate members. P<\/span>SA<\/span> consists mainly of <\/span>sociologists who work <\/span>in<\/span> universities, Polish Academy of Sciences and other research institutions. Most of the members coming from outside the academic institutions <\/span>are <\/span>opinion and market researchers and social workers. <\/span>PSA<\/span> finances its activities from membership fees, income <\/span>comes also from <\/span>own Research Department, the Committee for Scientific Research grants, universit<\/span>ies\u2019<\/span> institutes of sociology and private sponsors.<\/span><\/p>\n

Polish Sociological Association is the second in the history of the <\/span>discipline<\/span> in Poland <\/span>by that name. The first was<\/span>established from<\/span> the initiative of Florian Znaniecki on <\/span>the First Conference of <\/span>Polish Sociologists in Poznan in 1931<\/span> and was one of the earliest sociological <\/span>associations<\/span> in Europe. <\/span>The <\/span>Warsaw office <\/span>of the association <\/span>was <\/span>established<\/span>, and the President <\/span>of the PSA become <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>professor <\/span>Ludwik Krzywicki. Previously, since 1927 work, The Polish Institute of Sociology<\/span> In Pozna\u0144<\/span>, <\/span>also <\/span>created by Znaniecki combined the tasks of a research institute with functions of scientific <\/span>association<\/span>. About P<\/span>SA<\/span> pre-war activities little is known, except fo<\/span>r<\/span> cooperation with the PI<\/span>S in POzna\u0144<\/span> in the organization of II Congress of Polish Sociologists in Warsaw in 1935. P<\/span>SA existed until<\/span> the a war<\/span>.<\/span> A<\/span>fter the war <\/span>not <\/span>resumed operations, some of the functions <\/span>realized PIS that was reactivated <\/span>in 1944<\/span> (abolished in 1951, along with other <\/span>sociological <\/span>institutions).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Current PTS was founded in 1957, its creation was an important fact in the process of rebirth of sociology after the collapse of Stalinism. <\/span>From <\/span>the initiative of Stanislaw Ossowski and a group of sociologists from Warsaw and Lodz was founded Sociological Section <\/span>in <\/span>the Polish Philosophical Society<\/span> i<\/span>n 1956. Section <\/span>did<\/span> accession to the International Sociological Association (ISA), and a year later evolved into a separate Polish Sociological <\/span>Association<\/span>. <\/span>Prof. <\/span>Ossowski was<\/span>a <\/span>chairman of the board and the board members<\/span> included<\/span>: Nina Assorodobraj, <\/span>J\u00f3zef<\/span> Chalasinski, Antonina K\u0142oskowska, J<\/span>an<\/span>Luty\u0144ski, Stefan Nowak, Zygmunt Pen, Jan Strzelecki, Jan Szczepa\u0144ski. With the development of the sociology <\/span>in Poland the<\/span>number of members <\/span>of PSA <\/span>grew rapidly, an informal group of sociologists and sociology supporters in various cities<\/span>created<\/span> regional offices (<\/span>Pozna\u0144<\/span> 1959, Lodz and Warsaw 1960, Lublin 1961, Krakow and Wroclaw in 1963, Torun 1964), and researchers with common interests <\/span>organized themselves<\/span> in sections, first in the <\/span>regional <\/span>branches, and then <\/span>on the national level<\/span>. Within a few years <\/span>were <\/span>created the basic structure of the P<\/span>SA. The organization <\/span>has developed as a self-governing and autonomous organization of the sociological <\/span>community <\/span>and <\/span>as <\/span>its social authority. The activities of the Polish Sociological Association (1) supports the development of sociology, (2) integrates <\/span>community of<\/span> sociologists, represents its interests and opinion, (3) s<\/span>upports \u00a0the development of <\/span>the sociological profession.<\/span><\/p>\n
