Statistics

Main responsibilities
The successful applicant is required to assume overall responsibility for the development of research and research-level education in the subject area.

Tasks include mainly conducting own research, teaching at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels, as well as leading and contributing to the graduate program through supervision of research students and active participation in applications for external research grants.

In addition, administrative within the department or at other levels within the University are included in the duties.

Qualification requirements
To qualify for employment as Professor the candidate will have demonstrated both research and teaching skills.

Research expertise should have been demonstrated through independent research in statistics that significantly exceeds the requirements for qualification as an Associate Professor, both in terms of quality and quantity. Further, importance will be given to planning and coordination of research.

Teaching proficiency should have been demonstrated through teaching at the undergraduate, master and doctoral levels, or the equivalent.
Assessment of teaching skills should cover the planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching, as well as supervision and examination.
Teaching skills should be well documented in a manner that makes it possible to assess the quality.

The applicant must have the ability to cooperate with colleagues as well as other abilities that are required in order to carry out the tasks.

Assessment criteria
Special and equal emphasis will be given to scientific and teaching proficiency.

Special emphasis will be placed on research merits in the subject within the recent five years. The primary consideration for the assessment of scientific skill will be scientific quality. Further, the scope of research in terms of depth and breadth will be given importance.
Assessment of scientific proficiency shall also take into account degree of independence in developing and managing research projects and contribution to international scientific knowledge through publication in international journals or other publications available internationally.

Strong emphasis will be placed on documented ability to cooperate well with colleagues and fellow researchers.

Strong emphasis will be placed on successful research supervision demonstrated through active guidance of at least one student to a completed PhD degree.

Strong emphasis will be paid on successful grant applications demonstrated by projects that received finance from externa sources.

Strong emphasis will be placed on documented ability to apply statistics in the social sciences.

Emphasis will be placed on administrative skills and proven collaboration with the surrounding society and dissemination of research and development findings.

Emphasis will be placed on documented development and application of the subject’s research frontiers.

The following is a merit:

Completion of at least 15 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education, or to have otherwise acquired the equivalent knowledge.
Completed training in research supervision.
Additional information
An applicant who does not have at least 15 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education and research supervisor training, and is not deemed to have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge, must complete such training within the first two years of employment.

Proficiency in Swedish is not a requirement at the time of appointment, but the candidate should be prepared to carry out teaching and administrative duties that require proficiency in Swedish within two years of employment.
